Hotels Offering COVID-19 Testing

In response to recent travel restrictions coupled with the need to provide a negative test result before boarding a plane to certain locations, hotels are beginning to offer on-site COVID-19 testing for guests.

Hyatt was the first major brand to offer on-site testing in a standard capacity in late January, applying to all Hyatt resorts across Latin America. Marriott quickly followed suit as all brand hotels in the Caribbean and Latin America now offer either COVID-19 testing or assistance to travelers with scheduling an appointment or providing transit. If a traveler is unable to travel back to the U.S. due to a positive test, both brands are offering up to 50% off on extended stay rates.

Beginning in March, Hilton Hotels will offer event planners the ability to book third party COVID-19 tests and screenings when hosting an event at a Hilton property. This new initiative is a part of Hilton’s EventReady with CleanStay program. It is intended to guide event planners and equip them with the necessary tools to plan safe events.

According to this Travel Pulse article, Frank Passanante, Senior Vice President, Hilton Worldwide Sales, Americas explains, “we expanded the resources within our Hilton EventReady Playbook to include third-party providers that can deliver a seamless experience and offer preferential pricing to our event planners.”

Accor is also partnering with a digital healthcare technology company to provide COVID-19 testing kits on-property at all managed hotels across the US and Canada. According to Travel Weekly, the kits include “an FDA-approved Bluetooth smart thermometer and FDA-authorized Covid-19 self-collection diagnostic PCR test, which is able to provide results within 24 to 48 hours. The kit's testing process also incorporates an app-based wellness and symptom survey”

Increased availability of COVID-19 testing may play a crucial role in the return to travel throughout the remainder of 2021, ensuring travelers have the tools to be as safe as possible when away from home.
